On September 11th of 2011, we ceremonially broke
ground on our station expansion that is to be built this year. During that 9/11 memorial ceremony, the 10 year
anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks that claimed the lives of 343 firefighters in New York City, we
honored those who lost their lives while saving others.
Among the honored guests who attended that
ceremony were John and Christine Altenburger. John is a retired CTFD volunteer firefighter, and both he and
wonderful his wonderful wife, Christine, continue to be active supporters of our department and valued members
of our community. At Monday evening's training meeting, the Altenburgers presented us with this beautiful
plaque, which they had struck to commemorate our future station addition.

It is with profound gratitude that we accept
this sentimental memorial to “the 343” and symbol of the brave heritage of the American firefighting community.
This plaque speaks volumes about the Altenburgers' continued dedication to the fire service and their gracious
support of our department. We look forward to prominently displaying their gift at the entrance of our new
station annex--the future home of our community's bravest for generations to come. It will serve as a lasting
reminder of the selfless service rendered by past, present, and future fighters everywhere.
On behalf of a grateful fire department, “Thank
you, John and Christine Altenburger!” We will always count you among our ranks.
